HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 87-20 Oi Ocoee � v �rP �• OF G0 8T - 20 1t lae0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA SUPPORTING A PROPOSED BOTTLE BILL; REQUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE ADOPT AND PASS INTO LAW A BOTTLE BILL; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the media has exposed Florida to a proposed Bottle Bill that would result in less solid waste going to land fills and reduce litter in our parks, lakes, rivers and roadsides; and WHEREAS, energy is conserved by recycling these materials instead of manufacturing new from raw ore; and WHEREAS, a Bottle Bill has wide public support and is recommended by many civic organizations and governmental agencies; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF CITY COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA. Section 1: That the State Legislature adopt and pass into law a Bottle Bill for the State of Florida during the 1988 Session, using the Oregon and Michigan Bottle Bills as a guide. Section 2: That this bill contain a provision for a minimum of a 5¢ deposit on all beverage can or bottles, regardless of the material used in manfacture and this deposit to be returned to the consumer on return of the empty containers or other designated areas. Section 3: That this bill be given extensive publicity so as to gain the widest possible public support and c•..-ration.
