HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-19-2009 Minutes THE CITY OF OCOEE POLICE PARKING INFRACTION HEARING BOARD MEETING - FEBRUARY 19,2009 I. Hearing began five minutes late due to waiting for officer to arrive. Sgt. Wagner called Officer Addeo, who forgot about the hearing and said he can be here in 15 minutes. Chairman Minarcin called the City ofOcoee Police Infraction Hearing Board meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of City Hall with the pledge of allegiance. The roll was called and a quorum declared. MEMBERS PRESENT: Robert Minarcin, Carole Arney, James Stein, Joe Chinelly, Victoria Laney, Matt Garland and Recording Secretary Betty Decker. Also present was Staff Liaison Sgt. Wagner. ABSENT: Louis Torres (unexcused). Member Laney made a motion to approve the minutes from the January hearing. seconded by Member Amey and the motion carries unanimously. A motion was then made by Member Stein. seconded by Member Laney. to give a 15 minute grace period. beIlinning at 7:00 pm. for an officer to arrive at the hearing. The motion carries 5-1. II. PRESENT A TION OF CASES - Chairman Minarcin asked the clerk to call the case. Case #1 - Case #2008-03-8069 - Sandra Nieves The defendant takes the stand to defend her case. Her friend presents her case due to language barrier. The officer is still not present by 7:15 so the case is dismissed. The board tells her to not park in a handicap spot without a permit in the future and assured her that the case was dismissed due to the officer's absence. III. OTHER BUSINESS OR COMMENTS Discussion regarding red light running, noise and other citations and ideas for the board to be able to preside over these hearings as well and asks Sgt. Wagner about the Chief approving this. It was mentioned that the Chief should be invited to the next Hearing so questions could be answered by him. (Officer Addeo arrives at 7:22). IV. ADJOURNMENT Member Arney makes a motion to adjourn, seconded by Member Stein.
