(District 1 - Commissioner Hood) Background Summary: City engineering staff was directed to prepare construction plans showing how historical artifacts from the original Ccoee High School building could be used at the new high school. The design developed proposes to use major structural artifacts to create an entrance sign and a commemorative monument at the new high school. The proposed high school entrance sign includes a 36-inch by 48-inch cornerstone from the original building and displaying the date 1927. The cornerstone is centered in a brick structure that mimics the profile of the original school. The sign includes two wing walls and a bench seat and is located in a 12 ft. x 14 ft. brick paver patio adjacent to the crosswalk for access and visitation. The sign is 13 feet wide and 12 feet tall, with a depth of 3 feet. This sign would be located on school property in the southeast quadrant of the traffic circle on Ccoee Crown Point Parkway. The proposed commemorative monument would be located near the high school's front door and is substantially composed of a 46inch wide by 50-inch tall decorative shield medallion recovered from the original high school building. To increase the strength of the medallion, it will be mounted on a small stucco wall and rest atop a granite base. The shield medallion is currently mounted on two 4x4 wood posts at the driveway entrance to the new high school. It will need slight refinishing in order to present it appropriately at the new location, Issue: Should the City transmit the proposed design to the high school administration? Recommendations Staff recommends that the plans be provided to the high school administration. Attachments: . Proposed design plans for the sign and monument. . Photograph of the proposed sign location. . Photograph of the proposed monument location. Financial Impact: The estimated cost of constructing the entrance sign is $20,000. The estimated cost of the monument is $5,000. No City funds have been identified for construction.
