Subject: Donation of surplus hydraulic rescue equipment
Background Summary:
The Ocoee Fire Department currently have new hydraulic rescue extrication equipment on all of the first run fire
apparatus. There are two (2) sets of old hydraulic tools in storage, slated for surplus and auction this year.
Attempts were made to trade in the old sets toward the purchase of new equipment, but were turned down by
vendors due to the age of the equipment. With proper maintenance and care the older equipment still operates.
Issue:
There is a need for this equipment by the Central Florida Fire Academy to be used in the training of new and
existing firefighters enrolled in their extrication classes. This equipment would supplement their current
equipment and be put to good use. The auction sale of this surplus equipment would bring minimal revenue,
and has limited use by the public.
Recommendations
Staff recommends the City Commission declare the hydraulic rescue equipment surplus and approve the
donation of it to the Central Florida Fire Academy.
Attachments:
Letter requesting the donation.
Financial Impact:
Loss of revenue from surplus sale of city equipment.

Chief Firstner,
I understand that you have some extrication equipment in surplus that you may be
interested in donating to the Central Florida Fire Academy. This equipment would
certainly assist in our equipment needs for our extrication program. As a community
training academy we use, and occasionally, overuse our equipment in the presentation of
our classes. These class training firefighters throughout Central Florida so it is
imperative that we always have equipment ready for our classes. I understand that the
surplus equipment includes:
2 Hurst Spreaders
2 Hurst Cutters
3 Short Hurst Rams
2 Long Hurst Rams
2 Power units with Honda engines
2 30' Hurst Hydraulic Hoses
I 100' Hurst Hose Reel with Hose
I Attachment Kit for Spreaders or Rams
Your consideration of a donation to the Central Florida Fire Academy is appreciated.
Sincerely,
/?lffi~
