PRESENT: BOWNESS, BROOKLYN, CARTER, HALL, KENNEDY, LAIT, McROBERT, TIMBES
ABSENT: THOMAS
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Bowness at 7:30 P. M.
1. PUBLIC HEARING - PETITION 77 -6 - Rezoning from C -3 to I -1 on 2 irregularly
shaped parcels located on the backside of property which fronts on Bluford Avenue
and Geneva Street. Mr. Bill Breeze showed Board a diagram of proposed change
pointing out that the area would be surrounded by C -3; and that a C -3 frontage on
a highway is good but 300' depth of C -3 is not necessarily best land use.
Mr. Wright, prospective buyer of property, intends to erect concrete block
structure with truss or steel roof 35' X 120' in 2 separate sections (one to
rent possibly), to use as a shop for cabinet making. Mrs. Ungaro stated no
opposition to cabinet shop, she just wants to be protected from another trucking
company. Chairman Bowness read letter from Marc Hall, D.V.M., who restated in
writing his objections made in person at the last meeting. Mr. McRobert moved to
recommend to Commission to accept the petition with the alteration that the 50'
access road be less than 50'. Seconded by Mr. Brooklyn. Vote was 3 yeas(Brooklyn,
Carter, McRobert), 4 Nays (Kennedy, Lait, Hall, Timbes). Motion not carried.
Mr. McRobert moved to recommend to Commission that the Zoning Ordinance be changed
to accomodate cabinet shops in C -3. Seconded by Mr. Hall. No vote was called for.
Mr. Kennedy moved that Board interpret cabinet making as furniture repair or at
least comparable to furniture repair and pass on this opinion to Building Inspector.
Seconded by Mr. Lait. Unanimously carried.
2. Rev. John Daniels came before Board to find out if a variance would be required
to put a church on property located at 401 Palm Drive which is presently zoned R1A.
Mr. Carter pointed out there is a statute preventing alcoholic beverages being
sold within 500' of a church, so Board referred Rev. Daniels to City Manager.
Mr. McRobert moved to accept minutes as read. Seconded. by Mr. Carter. Unanimous.
Meeting adjourned at 8:26 P. M.
