MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT HELD MARCH 2, 1978
PRESENT: HAGER, MARSDEN, MAXEY, RHODES, THOMAS
ABSENT: KENNEDY
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Thomas at 7:38 P. M. to consider
Petition 78 -1, a petition requesting a variance to Section 4, Subsection 4.4(5)
of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Ocoee, to permit the construction of
houses of 1,012 sq. ft. and 1,056 sq. ft. living area rather than 1,200 sq. ft.
as required in R1A zoning, on Lots 16 thru 22, 24 and 25 Block A, Lots 6 thru 10
Block E, Lots 1 thru 5, 12 and 13 Block H in Ocoee Hills Subdivision. These
lots are located on Apricot Drive and Pinewood Lane. Mr. Charles Coffman,
Real Estate Broker, appeared before the board representing both Z. L. Evans,
owner, and Jack Shubert, prospective buyer. Mr. Coffman explained that Mr.
Shubert proposes to build houses to sell at approximately $24,000.00, and the
reduced footage would make that price feasible.
From the audience of more than 95 citizens, Mr. Ray Bolen of 1205 Oakwood
Lane, as spokesman, read a petition with more than 200 signatures against
the variance. Mr. Cecil Shewmaker of 1205 Pinewood Lane spoke also as repre-
sentative of the residents of that area who were very much opposed to the
construction of smaller homes in their neighborhood.
At 8:38 P. M. Mr. Marsden moved that the discussion from the floor be
ended. Seconded by Mr. Rhodes. Unanimously passed.
Mr. Rhodes moved to deny petition. Seconded by Mr. Maxey. Unanimously
passed.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 P. M.
Respectfully submitted,
