Absent: Thomas CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order at 7:49 P. M. in the Commission Chambers by Chairman McRobert. MINUTES ACCEPTED Minutes of the meeting held December 27th were accepted as written. PUBLIC HEARING - PETITION 80 -1 - REZONE LOTS 4, 5, 6, 7, Blk E, MARION PARK FROM R1AAA to R1A Edwin Pounds, petitioner and Ben Griffin, representative of Mr. Pounds were present. Several citizens were present in opposition to the zoning request with a petition of forty opposing signatures. Building Inspector, Cecil Hurst stated that he was opposed to said re- zoning request for the following reasons: 1. To prevent spot zoning. 2. There is no reason why the builder would not be able to comply with `.r the zoning regulations by subdividing and erecting a 1,600 sq. ft. home. 3. Downgrade to neighborhood. 4. A 1,200 sq. ft. home would be too small of a house and the area around the lake should be reserved for the larger and nicer homes. Ben Griffin stated that they were not trying to downgrade the area and there was a demand for smaller houses, especially among the elderly. He also indicated that the homes would bring tax revenues to the City. Mr. Lait moved to recommend to Council that the zoning remain as is and to deny said petition. Mr. Aho seconded. Vote unanimous. ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 8:15 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Esther L. White Deputy Clerk
