The task force is comprised of governmental and important business leaders within West Orange County and South Lake County. Issue: The City of Ocoee will be hosting the organizations annual update meeting on October 6th, 2005 at 10 a.m. in the City Commission Chambers. Attendees include the County Mayor, Commissioners and the Department of Transportation's District Secretary, and many State Representatives. However, we have not paid our yearly 2005 municipal dues yet due to a perceived limited benefit associated with the continuation of membership. The Task Force has been an integral factor in the widening project along State Road 50, in which of course the City will benefit. Scott Vandergrift STAFF REPORT TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners FROM: Robert Frank, City Manager DATE: September 14, 2005 RE: West Orange/South Lake Transportation Task Force Dues ISSUE The City of Ocoee will be hosting the West Orange/South Lake Transportation Task Force Annual Update Meeting on October 6th, 2005 at 10 a.m. here at the City Commission Chambers where we will play host to the County Mayor, Commissioners, the Department of Transportation's District Secretary, and many State Representatives. However, we have not paid our yearly 2005 municipal dues yet due to a perceived limited benefit associated with the continuation of membership. This year however, the Task Force has been an integral factor in the widening project along State Road 50, in which of course the City will benefit. The Task Force was instrumental in moving the funding for the widening of State Road 50 up by at least five years, are acting as the technical committee for preliminary design and environmental study for Highway 50, and are working with all jurisdictions along Highway 50 to create an "overlay" district which will work to standardize signage, landscape buffers, and other amenities along the 18 mile stretch to create an eye appealing drive along with the widening completion. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION In the past the City of Ocoee has been a regular member of the West Orange/South Lake Transportation Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of governmental and important business leaders within West Orange County and South Lake County. Currently, governmental participants include; City of Winter Garden, Lake County, Town of Windermere, City of Clermont, Orange County, and the Town of Oakland. This organization's mission is a commitment to encouraging cooperation and forging partnerships with the goal of providing transportation solutions to the ever growing West Orange/South Lake Community. The Task Force is a public-private partnership dedicated to assisting in the development and improvement of the transportation network in West Orange and South Lake Counties. Membership includes two counties, five cities, and many diverse traffic generator and public spirited private members.
