HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-02-89 MINUTES OF OCOEE CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 2, 1989 PRESENT: Chairman Sam Woodson, Nell Minor, Betty Hager, and Sharon Levine; Street Supervisor Buddy Elmore, Garry Smith, and Deputy Clerk Green. ABSENT: Bill Breeze (and Commissioner Johnson ere out of town. Chairman Woodson called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.. Minutes of the November 3rd meeting were distributed for approval. Paragraph four was corrected with a concluding sentence stating: "However, a small shrub might be planted in the flower garden upon approval of Buddy or Garry." The minutes were approved as corrected. Mr. Woodson asked if committee members had any recommendations or comments about the revised Cemetery Deed which had been proposed by City Attorney Paul Rosenthal. The need for the routine inclusion of the recorded document segment on the bottom of page one of the Deed was questioned, because, as far as we know, the cemetery deeds are rarely recorded. There were no additional changes suggested. The Committee unanimously agreed to recommend that the Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the Deed as submitted with the exception of questioning the recorded document segment. The Committee further recommended Commission authorization for the Mayor and City Clerk to execute conveyances of cemetery plots utilizing the approved form provided that the City receives payment in accordance with existing City ordinances, resolutions and regulations as had been advised by the City Attorney. Betty Hager reported that the Hawthorne family land, which had been suggested as a possible site for Cemetery expansion, remains unavailable. We may know something more definite about this matter within a few months. A document specifying monument design as well as general cemetery rules is provided to each purchaser of a cemetery lot. This document had been updated by the clerk for the cemetery with minor corrections and the inclusion of the portion of the cemetery code which pertained to placement of flowers in the cemetery. A sentence had been added stating: "I have read the foregoing rules and regulations and do hereby agree to abide by them." A signature line had also been added. Copies of the revised document were distributed for members' review. After some discussion, it was suggested that the clerk add floral regulations similar to those specified by Woodlawn Memorial Park and that the revised document be brought back for Committee review at the next meeting. The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30 P.M. in the conference room in City Hall. 1 Page 2 Cemetery Advisory Committee Meeting February 2, 1989 The meeting adjourned at 8:55 P.M..
