HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-03-88 MINUTES OF OCOEE CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD ON NOVEMBER 3, 1988
PRESENT: Chairman Sam Woodson, Nell Minor, Betty Hager, Bill
Breeze, Sharon Levins, and Commissioner Rusty Johnson; Street
Supervisor Buddy Elmore, Garry Smith, and Deputy Clerk Green.
ABSENT: None.
Chairman Woodson called the meeting to order at 7:40 P.M..
Minutes of the October 6th meeting were distributed.
Mr. Woodson reported that he had asked the Commissioners
about suspense of Cemetery Committee meetings until February. The
Commissioners had agreed to the suspension because they were so
busy with other things at this time. Commissioner Johnson will
report in February about the progress of the Commissioners in
their consideration of the recommendations of the Cemetery
Advisory Committee.
Mr. Woodson asked for suggestions or comments which any one
present might wish to contribute.
Mrs. Hager said that Mrs. Alice Bass had inquired about
`er planting a tree or bush on her daughter's grave. Section 7 -11,
Part (o) of the Ocoee Code permits flowers and other symbols of
tribute to be temporarily placed upon graves. After some
discussion, it was generally agreed that random plantings would
complicate maintenance of the cemetery and should not be permitted.
Mr. Elmore emphasized the importance of setting up a
perpetual care fund for the cemetery. He also asked when he
should plan to start on the gates. Mr. Breeze suggested that
the perpetual care fund be used to provide the gates.
Commissioner Johnson commented that the entrance looks great.
He said that the Commissioners are studying the Committee's
suggestions.
Mrs. Levins also commented that the cemetery entrance looks
great. She added that we need to enforce the cemetery rules we
have now.
Mrs. Hager reported that the price for the Eckles property
might be about $500,000.00, and added that the ecology of the back
portion of the property has changed.
In closing comments, Mr. Woodson stated that he had enjoyed
working with everyone.
The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, February 2nd at
7:30 P.M. in the conference room in City Hall.
