HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-06-88 MINUTES OF OCOEE CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD ON OCTOBER 6, 1988
PRESENT: Chairman Sam Woodson, Bill Breeze, Sharon Levins, Street
Supervisor Buddy Elmore, and Deputy Clerk Green.
ABSENT: Betty Hager and Nell Minor.
Chairman Woodson called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M..
Minutes of the September 1st meeting were distributed.
Mr. Woodson led in discussion of the cemetery ordinance.
Mr. Breeze suggested that the current rules needed to be more
strictly enforced. He especially urged enforcement of Section 7-
3, providing for the appointment of a superintendent and Section
7 -4, specifying the duties of the superintendent. Mr. Breeze also
recommended that the cemetery deed be rewritten to include the
regulations in the ordinance.
After further discussion, Mr. Breeze suggested that the
Committee provide a report to the Board of Commissioners at their
next meeting to recommend /inquire about the following:
1 - Enforcement of rules and regulations as specified in the
current ordinance - especially the appointment of a
superintendent.
2 - Formal establishment of a fee for marking graves and
overseeing the installation of monuments, with provision for an
effective date.
3 - Elimination of free lots for Over -65 Program members.
4 - The status of the legal review of the cemetery deed. If
the review has not been completed, the Committee urges that it be
accomplished, as the current deed does not appear to retain the
right to enforce the cemetery rules and regulations.
5 - The progress made toward platting of the unplatted area
in the existing cemetery.
Mr. Elmore reported completion of the project to stucco and
paint the cemetery walls. He also suggested sending a letter of
appreciation to the Banana Bay Nursery in appreciation for their
donation of trees and plants for the cemetery.
The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd at
7:30 P.M. in the conference room in City Hall.
The meeting adjourned at 8:47 P.M..
Respectfully submitted,
Now.
Marian Green, Deputy Clerk
