MINUTES OF OCOEE CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1988
PRESENT: Chairman Sam Woodson, Betty Hager, Nell Minor, Mrs.
Rusty Johnson, Street Supervisor Buddy Elmore, Garry Smith, and
Deputy Clerk Green.
ABSENT: Bill Breeze and Sharon Levins.
Chairman Woodson called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M..
Minutes of the August 11th meeting were distributed. The spelling
of the name of Eckles was corrected from "Echols" in paragraph
two, line four.
Mr. Woodson stated that the Commissioners supported
continuation in the Cemetery "business" as well as the Committee's
project for revision of the rules and regulations for its
operation. He noted that Commissioner Bateman had said that he
was 100% behind it. Mrs. Hager commented that there was support
to "stay in business" at least until lots were sold out in the
current acreage. 1
Mrs. Hager reported that the Hawthorne family was in process
kW of probating their Mother's will, and would be able to give a
decision about the availability of their property for sale in
about four months. She also reported that she had been unable to
reach Edith Eckles to determine availability of her property. She
noted that some of the Eckles property may be too low to be
usable, and cautioned about buying land that would be too low. If
sufficient information for a report on available land could be
obtained, it was generally agreed that it should be given to f
Commissioner Johnson for presentation at the next Commission
meeting.
Mr. Elmore reported that posts and footing had been added in t
the Cemetery, and that the signs would be added tomorrow. In ,
response to a question about what could be done with monuments k
which were slanting, he suggested having a monument company to i
reset them. He also suggested that when fences now in place
around cemetery lots become unsightly, we should not allow
replacement.
i
The Signature Group (Coventry) had donated concrete for
Cemetery improvements, and members agreed to send a letter of
appreciation for their generosity. ( ;
Mr. Woodson asked members to study the Cemetery Ordinance
before the next meeting. He asked them to note any changes,
additions, or subtractions which they would like to suggest.
kV t
The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, October 6th, at
i
7:30 P.M. in the conference room in City Hall.
