HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-01-88 fkliw MINUTES OF OCOEE CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1988 PRESENT: Chairman Sam Woodson, Betty Hager, Nell Minor, Mrs. Rusty Johnson, Street Supervisor Buddy Elmore, Garry Smith, and Deputy Clerk Green. ABSENT: Bill Breeze and Sharon Levins. Chairman Woodson called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M.. Minutes of the August 11th meeting were distributed. The spelling of the name of Eckles was corrected from "Echols" in paragraph two, line four. Mr. Woodson stated that the Commissioners supported continuation in the Cemetery "business" as well as the Committee's project for revision of the rules and regulations for its operation. He noted that Commissioner Bateman had said that he was 100% behind it. Mrs. Hager commented that there was support to "stay in business" at least until lots were sold out in the current acreage. 1 Mrs. Hager reported that the Hawthorne family was in process kW of probating their Mother's will, and would be able to give a decision about the availability of their property for sale in about four months. She also reported that she had been unable to reach Edith Eckles to determine availability of her property. She noted that some of the Eckles property may be too low to be usable, and cautioned about buying land that would be too low. If sufficient information for a report on available land could be obtained, it was generally agreed that it should be given to f Commissioner Johnson for presentation at the next Commission meeting. Mr. Elmore reported that posts and footing had been added in t the Cemetery, and that the signs would be added tomorrow. In , response to a question about what could be done with monuments k which were slanting, he suggested having a monument company to i reset them. He also suggested that when fences now in place around cemetery lots become unsightly, we should not allow replacement. i The Signature Group (Coventry) had donated concrete for Cemetery improvements, and members agreed to send a letter of appreciation for their generosity. ( ; Mr. Woodson asked members to study the Cemetery Ordinance before the next meeting. He asked them to note any changes, additions, or subtractions which they would like to suggest. kV t The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, October 6th, at i 7:30 P.M. in the conference room in City Hall. t 1 t "\r.
