HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-11-88 MINUTES OF OCOEE CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD ON AUGUST 11, 1988
PRESENT: Chairman Sam Woodson, William Breeze, Betty Hager,
Commissioner Rusty Johnson, Street Supervisor Buddy Elmore, Garry
Smith, and Deputy Clerk Green.
ABSENT: Nell Minor and Sharon Levins.
Chairman Woodson called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M..
Mr. Breeze moved to approve the minutes of the July 21st meeting
and there was no dissent.
In general discussion about possible sites for expansion of
the Cemetery, the approximate 4 acres of Hawthorne property
adjacent to the present Cemetery, 10 to 20 acres of the Tri City
Airport property, and the Eckles property on Red Brick Road were
mentioned as possibilities. Though forty acres of land would be
required for a new cemetery, there would be no specific
requirement for expansion of an existing cemetery. The cheapest
suitable land available for purchase was estimated to be about
$9,000 per acre.
In discussion of improvements for the Cemetery, Buddy Elmore
asked if the Committee had a preference in the style of stucco for
the Cemetery wall. Committee members had no objection to the
Spanish style which could be done by Mr. Elmore at a lower cost.
In further discussion, the Committee members decided to
request a meeting with the Mayor and Board of City Commissioners
in order to determine the will of the Commission before proceeding
with the revision of the rules and regulations for the Cemetery.
A workshop with the Commission would be requested for 6:00 P.M. on
Monday, August 15th, prior to the scheduled Budget Workshop.
The meeting adjourned at 8:35 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
