HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem #07 Declaration of Surplus Propertyrenter of Good Llp. d' AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET Meeting Date: 8/21/12 Item # Reviewed By: Contact Name: Joyce Tolbert Department Director: v--zw— Contact Number: 1516 City Manager: j,r• Subject: Declaration of Surplus Property Issue: The attached is a departmental listing of items requested to be declared as surplus property. A tentative listing was sent to all departments allowing an opportunity for the departments to request any items meeting their needs; and ultimately there were no requests for transfer. Background Summary: Due to several vehicles being replaced during the summer, the City has vehicles and other surplus property that staff recommends being disposed of before their value decreases. Future surplus auctions may be scheduled for the summer to coincide with the factory and dealer delivery schedules for new replacement vehicles and equipment. In March, 2012, the City Commission approved a one (1) year contract with George Gideon Auctioneers for the disposal of City surplus property. Any items that do not sell would be listed on the next scheduled auction day. The surplus items will be delivered to the Gideon property located at 2753 N. Orange Blossom Trail (Hwy. 441), Zellwood, FL 32798. Gideon performs governmental auctions the third Saturday of each month; therefore, the next available auction will be held on September 15, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The auction will be advertised in the Orlando Sentinel, the West Orange Times, and the City's Internet site. Recommendations: Staff requests that the City Commission: 1) Declare the items listed as surplus; 2) Approve the date of the City's auction with George Gideon Auctioneers as September 15, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. Attachments: 1. Surplus List (forthcoming) 2. Gideon Contract Financial Impact: City expenses would be administrative and labor to move or prepare the items for sale. There will be a charge of approximately $37.50 per vehicle towed to the auction site by the City's Towing Contractor, The Car Store. However, the money received for all items sold, less auction fees, should offset these expenses.
