Background Summary: Members of the Community Grant Review Board serve two -year terms. The Ordinance provides that the Community Grant Review Board membership shall consist of five (5) members. Currently, the board has four (4) members and there are no other applications on file for this board. Tim Henderson has expressed his interest in serving on the Community Grant Review Board. He was also recently appointed to the Human Relations Diversity Board in which he will remain. Issue: Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission appoint Tim Henderson to the Community Grant Review Board with term ending March 2015? Recommendations Staff recommends that the City Commission appoint Tim Henderson to the Community Grant Review Board with term ending March 2015. Mr. Henderson has worked in a variety of research and philanthropic positions, including Supervisory Survey Statistician at the Census Bureau, Director of School Health, Sponsored Programs and Research at the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, Vice President of the Quantum Foundation, President of the Black Stallion Literacy Foundation and President of Strategic Business Decisions, a company with a mission to advance non - profit fund - raising and operational effectiveness. Mr. Henderson has organized and led numerous non - profit collaboratives, including the Palm Beach County School Health Initiative (nurses in every school), the Children's Behavioral Health Initiative (social workers helping kids with adjustment issues) and Omega (creating an elder - friendly Palm Beach County). Mr. Henderson's has written successful grants totaling nearly $50 million from public and private funders, with matching funding tallying $30 million. These funders include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Health Resource and Services Administration, the Hartford Foundation and the Retirement Research Foundation Mr. Henderson has won numerous awards, including the Martin Luther King Community Service Award, the President's Award from the Palm Beach County Medical Society and the Census Bureau Award for Outstanding Achievement. Mr. Henderson's community service includes: founding President of the Quantum House (similar to a Ronald McDonald House); board member and Treasurer of Grantmakers in Aging (affinity group for funders of senior services); and member of the Robert Wood Johnson Katrina Recovery Task Force.
