HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2002-06 RESOLUTION NO. 2002-06 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA, REQUESTING GOVERNOR BUSH TO SUPPORT THE CITY OF OCOEE PROJECT FOR FLORIDA CENTRAL RAILROAD INTERMODAL AS PASSED BY THE LEGISLATURE IN BILL 27E SECTION 6 ITEM 2486 PAGE 324; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Florida Auto Auction, located in Ocoee, processed 340,000 vehicle sales last year which were brought to the auction on trucks; and WHEREAS, the primary access to the Florida Auto Auction is on State Road 50, a heavily congested roadway; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Ocoee desires, in conjunction with the Florida Central Railroad, to create rail service in West Orange County with the principal objective of relieving traffic congestion on State Road 50; and WHEREAS, this proposed railway with related facilities will have as its primary objective transporting automobiles to and from the Florida Auto Auction by train rather than truck; and WHEREAS, a substantial portion of the truck traffic could be reduced by constructing a track and related facilities to serve this business and others in the immediate area; thereby reducing the continued FDOT need for roadway maintenance; and WHEREAS, the project was included in the budget sent to The Honorable Governor Bush for his approval. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 006.106966.1 SECTION 1. Authority. The City Commission of the City of Ocoee has the authority to adopt this Resolution pursuant to Article VIII of the Constitution of the State of Florida and Chapter 166, Florida Statutes. SECTION 2. The City Commission of the City of Ocoee hereby requests that The Honorable Governor Bush support the City of Ocoee- Florida Central Railroad Intermodal Project $1.1 million Economic Development-Bill 27E Section 6 Item No. 2486 Page 324. SECTION 3. Severability. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this Resolution is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion hereto.
