Resolution No. 2000-16
WHEREAS, the City of Ocoee supports the Department of Elder Affairs' mission
to increase opportunities for elders to be independent, and to remain in the
homes and communities they love as long as possible; and
WHEREAS, the United States Census Bureau confirms the State of Florida
has the highest percentage of elders of any state in the nation, and that
our elder population is rapidly increasing; and
WHEREAS, in order to cope with the mass longevity and sheer volume of
elder Floridians, we must resolve as cities and counties to direct our
attention to take action about elder issues and
WHEREAS, the City ofOcoee and the Department of Elder Affairs share
the vision and responsibility to provide elders with information, choices
and opportunities so that they can prepare for and enjoy a good quality
of life throughout their elder years; and
WHEREAS, in order to achieve our mutual goal, cities and counties
should begin to build the infrastructure needed for elders to be
independent as long as possible;
NOW, THEREFORE IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that our community,
the City of Ocoee, will make every effort to determine our state of Elder
Readiness and take the prudent and necessary steps to become an Elder Ready
Community by 2010-2012.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City ofOcoee, Florida,
this November 21, 2000.
