V�tf)( RQE21 *, 'The City of Ocoee will participate in this effort by educating both
drivers and pedestrians through established means of constituent
communications and the production and dissemination of Ocoee - specific
public awareness in conjunction with supporting the efforts of groups
such as Bike /Walk Central Florida and the participation in pedestrian
specific enforcement actions.
✓ aw,✓'i ,e�, I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor, do hereby proclaim the month of
November, 2014 as,
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY MONTH
in Ocoee, and urge all citizens observe these actions to enhance the health and well -being of
the people of Ocoee and visitors, and contribute to our goal of creating a more walkable,
and livable, community.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal
of the City of Ocoee, Florida to be
affixed this 4`" day of November 2014.
The mobility and accessibility afforded the individual is basic to the
success of the Ocoee land use and transportation system, where streets
are designed and operated to assure safety, comfort (i.e. perceived
safety), and accessibility for all users;

btudies have shown that over the past decade, on average, two
pedestrians are injured every day and one pedestrian is killed each week
in the Orlando- Kissimmee MSA; and
,florida Statute Title XXIII, Chapter 316.130 states that vehicle drivers
must yield right -of -way to a pedestrian crossing within a crosswalk; and
a pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than a crosswalk must
yield the right -of -way to a vehicle; and
ZI systematic regimen of public education, low -cost engineering and
high - visibility enforcement has been demonstrated to reduce pedestrian
injuries and fatalities in other markets; and

The City of Ocoee joins with the nation, state, other cities, towns,
counties, law enforcement, and regional planning authorities in a global
effort to reverse this deadly trend; and
