lives of most Americans; and

and environmentally-sound form of transportation, an excellent form of
fitness and provides quality family recreation; and
..elley, ~t education of cyclist and rnotorist as to the proper and safe
operation of bicycles is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all
users; and
..elleD, ~t League of Americans Bicyclist and independent cyclist throughout
our state are promoting greater public awareness of bicycle operation
and safety education in an effort to reduce accidents, injuries and
fatalities for all: and
..elleu, ~t Ocoee Police Department and School Crossing Guards work hand
in hand with the public to re-enforce the use of helmets by all school
children and adults; and
..el\.eD, ~t City of Ocoee through the Police Department provides an ongoing
bike safety programs through civic organizations, schools, and public
awareness events that encompasses all aspects of biking community.

vested in me by the state of Florida proclaim: May 2006 as
"BIKE MONTH" in the City of Ocoee

bicycle safety and be more aware of cyclist on our streets and highways.

Proclamation
WHEREAS, safety of our citizens is the foremost goal of local, state, and national
governments; and
WHEREAS, the ability to exercise the rights and freedoms as set forth by our Forefathers
depends upon law and order; and
WHEREAS, the enforcement oflaw and order is a primary function of government; and
WHEREAS, Law Enforcement is one ofthe few chosen professions that require the willingness
to lay down one's life to protect others; and
WHEREAS, the daily performance of a Law Enforcement Officer's normal duty is dangerous,
stress-filled, often unappreciated and requires a special person with a supportive
family; and
WHEREAS, the Ocoee Police Department is comprised ofthe finest officers, supervisors,
dispatchers, administrative and support staff that can be found,
Now, Therefore, I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City ofOcoee, do hereby declare
the observance of May 15 - 20, 2006 as:
NATIONAL POLICE WEEK
in the City of Ocoee, and I urge all citizens to take the time to thank those in Law Enforcement
for the important service they provide to all of us.
