abuse and neglect is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community, and finding solutions
requires input and action from everyone in our community; and
VjOe i 9016, our children are our most valuable resources and will shape the future of the city of Ocoee;
and
Vj�)QERC R*, child abuse can have long -term psychological, emotional, and physical effects that can have
lifelong consequences for victims of abuse; and
f�CrCT, protective factors are conditions that reduce or eliminate risk and promote the social,
emotional, and developmental well -being of children. Effective child abuse prevention activities succeed
because of the meaningful connections and partnerships created between child welfare, education, health,
community- and faith -based organizations, businesses and law enforcement agencies; and
communities must make every effort to promote programs and activities that benefit children
and their families. We acknowledge that we must work together as a community to increase awareness about
child abuse and contribute to promote the social and emotional well -being of children and families in a safe,
stable, nurturing environment; and
VJ[)CHAC RRb, prevention remains the best defense for our children and families.

woodlands and to support our City's urban forestry program, and
FURTHER, I urge all citizens to plant trees to gladden hearts and promote the well
being of present and future generations.

that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. This holiday, called
Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees
in Nebraska. Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the
world; and

1 5rees can reduce the erosion of our precious top soil by wind and water, cut
heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce
oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife. Trees are a renewable resource
giving us paper, wood for our homes, and countless other wood products;

Ocoee adopted a strong arbor ordinance that has added over 15,000 trees in
the last twenty years. In addition, the Ocoee Parks and Recreation
Department and the Ocoee Utilities Department have given away over one
thousand trees in the last five years at various city sponsored events for
residents to place in their yards; and

Ocoee has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation since
2009. To be named a Tree City USA, you must meet four requirements: a
tree board or department, a tree -care ordinance, an annual community
forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and
proclamation.
