111HERTAS, T he open exchange of public discourse is essential to the
democratic system of government; and
"1V3 21 cornerstone of democracy Americans have observed certain
rules of behavior generally known as civility; and
7V5fEREAS, D isplays of anger, rudeness, ridicule, impatience, and a lack of
respect and personal attacks detract from the open exchange
of ideas, prevent fair discussion of the issues, and can
discourage individuals from participation in government; and
YV3zEY i 5 S; Civility can assist in reaching consensus on diverse issues and
allow for mutual respect in ongoing relationships; and
)V.91EREAS, Civility can uplift our daily life and make it more pleasant to
live in an organized society; and
3V. EREAS, T he City, County and Local Government Law Section of the
Florida Bar urges the adoption of a pledge of civility by all
citizens in the State of Florida.

PROCLAMATION '"---'
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Ocoee recognize the vital role that swimming and
aquatic- related activities play in our physical and mental well - being; and
WHEREAS, water safety education plays an essential role in the prevention of
drowning and recreational water - related injuries; and
WHEREAS, ` the recreational water industry has made many significant contributions as
represented by the organizations involvement in the National Water Safety
Month Coalition towards the development of safe swimming facilities,
aquatic programs, horse pools and related activities; and
WHEREAS, there are ongoing efforts and commitments within Ocoee to educate the
public on water safety issues and initiatives by - the pool, spa, water park,
recreation and parks industries; and
WHEREAS, communicating water safety rules and programs to families and individuals
of all ages is vital.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, do hereby
declare the month of May, as
NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH
FURTHER, I encourage all parents within the community to ensure their children have
received swimming lessons by the age of five, or have taken water safety lessons that will keep
their children safe when near water sources.

3 )151ER2.A5; every day, our Nation's dedicated law enforcement officer's put themselves at
risk to keep their fellow Americans safe. These men and women from the largest
cities to our quiet communities here in Orange County selflessly risk their lives to
protect our families against crime; and
)1 - 1EREA5,' as Ocoee observes Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, we pay
tribute to the courageous men and women who wear the badge and keep the
peace; and
74 4S, Raw enforcement officers deserve our appreciation for the work they do, which
is to help people on a daily basis; and
7i2 ' RTAS, n Peace Officers Memorial Day and during Police Week, Ocoee honors the
heroism of all our law enforcement officers, especially those who have given
their lives so others might live. This includes Ocala Police Officer Jared Forsyth,
who was accidentally shot and killed while participating in a firearms training on
April 6, 2015; and
T1 S, Officer Forsyth and so many others have performed their jobs with
extraordinary distinction, and we will always remember their service and
sacrifice. We ask God's blessings for the families and friends they leave behind.

over the past 37 years; and
W I 'I'L R [ AS, advocacy and increased awareness will result in more
and better treatment for women with lung cancer and other lung
diseases and will ultimately save lives; and
W I .II :R'L.As, LUNG FORCE is the national movement led by the
American Lung Association, with the mission of making lung cancer
history— uniting women to stand together with a collective strength
and determination to lead the fight against lung cancer and for lung
health.
