Subject: Notification of Emergency Pump Replacements Lift Station 14
Background Summary:
The Lake Olympia Club and Lake Olympia Subdivision's original lift stations (two) were outfitted with
PumpX pumps. PumpX no longer supplies/support wastewater applications.
In 2012, the Olympia Club (station #16) was rehabbed, which included the replacement of the pumps
with Flygt pumps. At that time, with considerable effort and timing, one of the PumpX pumps was
remanufactured for a spare for use in conjunction with the remaining lift station in the Lake Olympia
Subdivision's (station #14). Since the rehab, one of the original pumps and the rehab pump have
failed, leaving the station with one operable pump. A replacement pump (new Flygt) scheduled for
installation at lift station #23 (White Hill Subdivision) has been temporarily placed in service in station
#14. Due to the needed replacement of the lift station #23 pump(s) and one remaining PumpX, new
pumps have been procured under an Emergency Purchase status from Flygt in the amount of
$29,018.00. The new pumps have a lead time of twelve to sixteen weeks before delivery.
Per Section 21.6 Emergency Purchases of the City purchasing policy: The Department Director may
make emergency purchases, with the authorization of the City Manager, in accordance with
emergency purchase procedures set forth in the Purchasing Manual.
Per Section 9 Emergency Purchases, purchases exceeding the City Manager's normal purchasing
limit of$25,000, shall require notification of the expenditure and nature of the emergency to the City
Commission by the Department Director or the City Manager.
Issue: Notification of emergency purchase to City Commission of pump replacement at Lift station
#14.
Recommendations: No motion required.
