Minutes of the Human Relations Diversity Board
Regular Meeting Held April 7, 2016
I: CALL TO ORDER
HRBD meeting was called to order by Chair Calloway at 7:05 pm in Room 109 at Ocoee City Hall located
at 150 North Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee, Florida.
Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Personal Reflection:
Member Maxwell led the board in the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag; followed by asking that we
each take a moment for personal reflection.
Roll Call and Determination of Quorum:
Secretary Washington performed roll call and determined that there was a quorum (9). In attendance at
the time meeting was called to order and roll call taken were: Chair Calloway, Past Chair Dawkins,
Member Daily, Member Maxwell, Chair Elect Crown, Member Briggs, Member Ruiz, and Member
Hershaw. Also present: Member Wright, Community Relations Manager. Member Vines arrived at 7:25
pm. Absent were: Member Foster and Member Keller.
Review Agenda for Tonight Meeting:
Chair Calloway reviewed the agenda for the night.
Review of Minutes:
Minutes of the February 4, 2016 meeting were approved.
Comments from Citizens /Public:
Rhonda Anderson Robinson lives in McCormick Woods and is visiting this evening. She works for the
UCF College of Medicine.
II: BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION
Budget Report:
Member Wright reported that the Board had a current fund balance of $14,268.54, with $7,500 being
donated to the Ocoee World Fest effort, which is an existing encumbrance. Therefore, the current
unencumbered fund balance is $6,768.54.
Essay Contest — follow up: The ceremony at the Lakeshore Center went well.
Other Business:
• Member Maxwell discussed the need to expand the diversity role for HRDB. After discussion,
Member Maxwell made a motion to adopt an outreach program to host an art and music
festival for middle and high school students in West Orange to celebrate Jazz History Month or
contributions to American music. The festival to be held at the end of April 2017. Seconded by
Member Dawkins. Unanimously approved. Member Wright reminded the board that this
program would be right after Ocoee World Fest.
• Ocoee World Fest: Member Maxwell stated that "West Orange Event Planning Group LLC" is
waiting for approval from the State. The dates are set for March 31— April 1, 2017. Discussion
followed regarding donors for the festival.
• Cemetery: Waiting on Public Works.
• MLK Parade: Discussion regarding starting at the mall and ending at Citrus Elementary and
having food trucks.
Set Next Agenda:
Chair Calloway, along with input from the board, set the agenda for the next meeting, which will be held
on May 5, 2016, said Agenda was established as listed below:
