Home My WebLink About08-04-2016 Minutes • CITY OF OCOEE Minutes of the Human Relations Diversity Board Regular Meeting Held August 4,2016 I:CALL TO ORDER HRDB meeting was called to order by Chair Crown at 7:10 pm in Room 109 at Ocoee City Hall located at 150 North Lakeshore Drive,Ocoee, Florida. A. Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Personal Reflection: Member Maxwell led the board in the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag;followed by Chair Crown asking that we each take a moment for personal reflection. B. Roll Call and Determination of Quorum: Member Dawkins performed roll call and determined that there was a quorum (9). In attendance at the time meeting was called to order and roll call was taken were: Members Calloway, Maxwell, Hershaw, Dailey, Dawkins, Foster,Crown, Anderson-Robinson and Ruiz. Also present:Joy Wright, Community Relations Manager.Absent were: Members Briggs and Vines. C. Review of Excused Absences: Members Briggs and Vines were unexcused absences. D. Review Agenda for Tonight's Meeting: Chair Crown reviewed the agenda for the night. E. Review of Minutes: Minutes of the June 2, 2016 meeting were approved. II:BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION A. Comments from Citizens/Public: Visitors are Afyia Smith,Tyrene Smith,Travis Brown, and Valerie King. Also in attendance was Andrew Maraniss-ESPN reporter/author—spoke with Bill Maxwell. He lives in Nashville and is a writer and is writing a book about the Ocoee Massacre and the City of Ocoee. B. Budget Report: Member Wright was out of the room at this time and report was not asked for later. C. Art Festival: Members Hershaw, Dawkins and Crown are on this committee. Discussion followed including prize money($50.00 to$100.00 wi th overall winner$150.00+$100). Each piece of artwork should represent a culture. Also discussion regarding the paperwork and letter to principals which should be sent in September. Date for submissions is Friday, March 3,a Presentation and showing on a Thursday night (March 16th). Schools included:Ocoee HS,West Orange HS, Wekiva HS,Apopka HS, Dr. Phillips HS,Olympia HS,and Legacy HS. D. Ocoee World Fest: Member Maxwell said that Ocoee World Fest is at a dilemma. Does the city want this event or not? Open table discussion regarding the World Fest. Chair Crown to speak to Mayor Johnson and Commissioner Keller. E. Speaker for MLK Parade: Member Maxwell contacted Brian Stamper who said yes as a speaker. F. Cemetery: No further information. G. Other Business: Member Daily missed some meetings and will be putting it in writing from now on. Member Dawkins made a motion to keep Member Daily on the Board. Motion approved. H. Set Next Agenda: Chair Crown,along with input from the board,set the agenda for the next meeting,which will be held on September 1, 2016,said Agenda was established as listed below: I.
