Mayor Vandergrift called the work session to order at 7:04 p.m. in the Commission Chambers Conference Room. PRESENT: Mayor Vandergrift, Commissioners Glass and Gleason. Also present were Personnel Technician Debbie McDonald and City Clerk Grafton. Former Commissioner Combs was present in the audience. ABSENT: Commissioners Anderson (who was ill) and Johnson. DISCUSSION/SELECTION FOR THE POSITION OF CITY MANAGER. After an initial agreement that there was nothing in the reports to rule out any of the four candidates that had been chosen, consensus was reached as follows: . Invite the candidates to arrive Thursday night. . Schedule 45 minute interviews separately with each Commissioner on Friday morning, break for lunch around 1 :00 p.m. and have four department heads take one candidate each to lunch while the Commission has a working lunch in the Conference Room. Instruct candidates to be available for an hour or so following lunch in case questions are raised during that session, but then candidates would be free to look the area over for the rest of the afternoon and evening, possibly with department heads providing a tour. . Use Saturday as a back-up day for interviews if Friday does not work out. . Have a reception (heavy hor d'oeuvres, with beverages to include beer and wine) at Health Central on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., inviting department heads, Board members, Chamber of Commerce leaders, business owners/operators, etc. . Schedule candidates to leave Sunday. DIRECTIONS TO STAFF. Consensus was reached to direct Secretary to City Manager Gosnell to make the necessary arrangements for the above, to include as well: . making reservations for flights and lodging at Holiday Inn in Ocoee, . arranging for rental cars for the out-of-state candidates, . arranging to reimburse the in-state candidate for mileage as he will drive here, . advising candidates that we use the Runzheimer scale for meals and arranging for their reimbursement upon submission of receipts. There was discussion about the appropriate time to investigate further into the backgrounds of the candidates, and it was determined that would be done after all the candidates were interviewed. Former Commissioner Combs spoke briefly about his experience in this area during the hiring of City Manager Shapiro. A call was placed to Commissioner Anderson, who was ill at home, to advise him about the decisions reached in the meeting and he concurred with the decisions made. ADJOURNMENT. The Work Session adjourned at 7:59 p.m. Attest: APPROVED: City of Ocoee s tAt, V' S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor
