Subject: Utilities Meter Reading Handheld Upgrades
Background Summary:
Per the manufacturer, the current handheld units being utilized for monthly meter readings are being phased out,
effective June 2007. Utilities staff would like to begin trading in and upgrading to the new Sensus RadioRead™
5002 series units, which can be utilized for manual, touch read and radio read meters. The 5002 units are able to
withstand inclement weather and temperatures varying between -220 F and 1300 F. Due to our current meter
reading system and the number of meters currently being used, staff would recommend replacing the handheld
meter reading devices presently in use with three Sensus 5002 series handheld RadioRead™ models.
Issue:
Should City Commission approve the purchase of three (3) 5002 Touch read Hand Held with communication and
charging stands at $5,075.00 each; and three (3) AutoGuns with extensions and chargers at $985.50 each.
Recommendation:
Motion to City Commission to authorize the purchase of three Sensus RadioRead™ Model 5002 Handheld
Devices and three AutoGuns with extensions in the estimated amount of $18,181.50.
Attachments:
Letter from Sensus Metering Systems notifying the City of Ocoee that production will cease and pricing for the
replacement equipment.
Financial Impact:
These funds will be taken out of the Utility Expenditure Account from the "Operating" line items and split
between Water and Wastewater.

This is to follo\V~up on pricing for meter reading equipment. The 3000 Series Hand
Holds that Ocoee bas been using for ten (10) years is becoming obsolete and difficult ro
maintain. Support for this product will be sropping next yelD'. in an effort support our
customers we are offering a trade-in program. It is:
1- 5002 Radio - TouchRead Hand Held with CommUoications and Charging stand
$5,075.00 each.
1 - AutoGun with cxtcnsi.on and Charger
$985.50 each.
Ocoee would need to replace three (3) units for a total cost ofSI &.181.50.
The SOOO series win use the same AutoRead software and will seamlessly interface to
your utility billing ~ystcm. .
