OF THE OCOEE POLICE DEPARTMENT
MEETING HELD JUNE 22, 2017
CALL TO ORDER:
In the absence of Chairperson Santana, Member King called the meeting to order in the
Commission Chambers of City Hall, located at 150 N. Lakeshore Drive. No volunteer to
lead the invocation, Member King elects to forego the invocation. Member King leads the
Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT:
Member Ball, Member King, Member Bray, Member Lewis. Also present are Lieutenant
Scott Nylander, Sargent Mireya Iannuzzi, and Recording Clerk Serrano
ABSENT:
Chairperson Santana(absent unexcused), Member Laney (absent excused), Member Titus
(absent unexcused) Member Hill (absent unexcused) Member Vines (absent excused)
Member Murray (absent unexcused) Member Garone (absent excused)
QUORUM DECLARED.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MAY 25, 2017 MEETING:
Member Bray motions to approve minutes, second by Member Ball. Board unanimously
approves. Member King welcomes new Member Warren Lewis; he introduces himself to
the board.
PULSE DINNER:
Sgt. Iannuzzi ordered from local vendor Franco's for dinner. Budget of$100 was
exceeded, final total for dinner is $170 Member Murray is board treasurer, not present.
Board discusses budget. Sgt. Iannuzzi reminds board the fiscal year ends October 1, no
foreseeable expenses before that date. Member Ball motions for the board to cover
• expense of dinner. Member Kings seconds motion. The board unanimously approves.
Sgt. Iannuzzi advises board that any leftovers will be taken to the station for officers
currently on patrol.
COFFEE WITH A COP:
July 18 event at McDonald's event is a nationwide campaign by the company. August 23
event will be at Kona Ice on McKey Street. Event goal is every other month.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Sgt. Iannuzzi says she will be sending the board electronic fliers for current events. There
are many new summer events. A lot of the departments fundraising is for the Toys for
Kids in Need program. Any city resident with children in the household can register; they
are not required to prove they are low income. The number of children registered grows
each year, has surpassed 600. Some items are donated, majority are purchased. July
fundraising events are with "Christmas in July"theme
"DENIM DAY":
Event approved by City Manager for employees who make a $5 donation to wear jeans to
work. One of 3 July fundraising events, this one is for city employees
"STUFF THE POLICE CAR":
Event will be on July 29 at Walmart, 103.1 the Wolf radio will be broadcasting live. The
event will be from l0am-4pm. People shopping at Walmart can buy toys to stuff the
patrol car.
POKER TOURNAMENT:
Final July event is a; it will be July 21 begins at 5pm, at the Ocoee Woman's Club.
Department has gotten great response from local business buying table sponsorships, for
logo display. Businesses have also donated prizes for the final table at event. Radio 103.1
the Wolf will be there. Member Gray says he will attend poker tournament.
MARINE PATROL AND POP UP GAMES:
Sgt. Iannuzzi gives overview of and SRO Marine Patrol has been put on Starke Lake. Pop
up games are very Friday, officers go to city parks and play games with kids, pop ups are
posted on social media. Most recent pop up was at Bill Breeze park.
PD VS. PARKS GAMES:
With Parks and Recreation department, 3 games coordinated, will play basketball kickball
and volleyball. The kids get pizza and shirts.
COOKIES AND MILK AND READING WITH A COP:
Held every Thursday during summer, at 4:30pm at the library. Local Publix, Chick-fil-A,
and Subway have donated cookies and milk to the event. Target age is youngest at 2yrs to
oldest 12yrs have been at event. Different officers take turns reading, patrol, traffic unit
and detectives have read. Kids take pictures with the officers. Sticker badges are given
out. Sgt. lannuzzi tells the board the officers were involved in pursuit just prior to the
most recent event.

TEEN POLICE ACADEMY:
Once a year event, this year's 07/10-14 from 10am-lpm. The academy is held at High
Point Church. It is open for ages 13-18.
WOMEN'S SELF-DEFENSE CLASS:
Next class is August 31, from 6pm-9pm class is given by Ofc. Scott-Marsh, this is a
ladies only class. Age range is 13 and up. Class is typically held once a month.
HANDGUN SAFETY CLASS:
Every last Saturday of the month. Held at our West Road substation, registration is
required. Class fills up very fast.
CASTING WITH A COP:
New event, our SRO and patrol officers will be fishing with kids August 11 and August
14 8am-1 lam on Starke Lake. Local business Get Hooked Bait and Tackle assisting in
event with prizes, bait etc. Snacks provided, parents encouraged to stay and participate.
FACEBOOK LIVESTREAM:
Video live streaming of traffic enforcement. Most recent was a click it or ticket
campaign. Campaign has been successful, the goal is to do once a week with new
locations and campaign each time. Views and share in the thousands.
BY-LAWS REVIEW:
This item was tabled to this meeting. Member Lewis points out typos, Sgt. Iannuzzi will
forward to be reviewed by the city clerk office. Member Kings brings up line in by laws it
states board must attend Citizen's Police Academy, she is unable to attend the fall event.
Sgt. Iannuzzi is ok with Member King attending spring academy.
RESTORATION DAY: W ItN4, 1-
Member Ball says discussion on weather this board is responsible for restoration of
cemetery. Member Titus was out last month placing flags for Memorial Day.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Sgt. Iannuzzi invites board to ask her questions, says they have been seeing some crime
trends on the North side of Ocoee. Deputy Chief has been posting to Facebook about
these trends for the public to be aware. Member King says she did invite some concerned
citizens. Sgt. Iannuzzi tells board to be aware of unusual activities and to report them.
Sgt. Iannuzzi says department is posting to Facebook, Twitter and Next Door. Member
King asks about safety assessment/training for gun owners Sgt. Iannuzzi says they can
meet with HOA. Officers assigned to that neighborhood or zone cane come out, requests
for such can be done online. Member Lewis request update to contact list, with complete
address and info. Member Lewis inquires if Member with Gotha address is covered, Sgt.
Iannuzzi confirms members must be city resident or city business owners. Member Lewis
