MEMORANDUM ELLIS SHAPIRO
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND BOARD OF CITY COMMISSIONERS
FROM: Montye Beamer, Director of Administrative Services 71/73--
DATE: October 16 , 1992
SUBJECT: Relocation of City Hall Functions
Various space in the City has been analyzed for possible relocation
of those municipal functions currently resident in City hall. The
largest space found thus far is located in the Ocoee Plaza at
Bluford and Silver Star. Without any negotiations the rate is
$8.00 per square foot with an additional $2 . 17 per square foot
Common Area Maintenance. The space available is 4, 750 square feet
and has only a concrete floor; no improvements are provided in the
quoted rate.
For less disruption and/or confusion, another possible location is
the Community Center with rental of portables for any additional
space requirements. The model now being leased is 50 ' x 12 ' (box
size 46 ' x 12 ' ) and costs $165 . 00 per month. A larger unit 60 ' x
24 ' (box size 56 'x 24 ' ) would run $490 .00 per month with set-up and
return charges totalling $2,650 . 00 . This larger unit would be
utilized instead of the current unit and could be placed in the
parking lot south of the Community Center. Any other improvements
such as larger electrical service, telephone system, and dividers
would be required no matter where relocation occurred. As of the
first of 1993, only three fee-paying reservations for the Center
have been finalized. Those non-profit organizations now utilizing
the space on an on-going basis would be required to find alternate
meeting sites. Police training sessions would also need to
relocate. The Commission meetings might possibly be held at the
Women' s Club or in the gymnasium at the Middle School.
Staff recommends the use of the Community Center with rental of a
portable unit for additional space requirement. The complete costs
and timing would be brought back to the City Commission within
thirty days .
Action Requested:
The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners discuss the
possible alternates and direct Staff to continue to review the
Community Center as the relocation site for City Hall functions.
