Minutes of the Human Relations Diversity Board
Regular Meeting Held June 07,2018
I:CALL TO ORDER
HRDB meeting was called to order by Chair Brown at 7:03 p.m. in Room 109 of Ocoee City Hall located at 150 North
Lakeshore Drive,Ocoee, Florida.
A. Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Personal Reflection: Member Calloway led the board in the Pledge of
Allegiance to the U.S.flag;followed by Chair Brown asking for moment of personal reflection.
B. Roll Call and Determination of Quorum: Secretary Mieras performed roll call and declared quorum (6) met.
In Attendance(8):
Chair Brown & Members:Calloway, Dawkins, Maxwell, Crown, Foster, &Anderson-Robinson. Member Daily
arrived at 7:15 p.m.
Non-Voting Present:
Secretary Mieras, Mayor Johnson, Ex-Officio Member Wright,Alta Steiner,Joseph Steiner,Taylor Jacobsen,Allie
Braswell, &Christine Moore.
C. Review of Excused Absence(s): Members Hershaw& Hart were excused absences.
D. Review Agenda for Tonight's Meeting: Chair Brown reviewed the agenda for tonight.
E. Review of Minutes: Minutes from the May 3rd meeting were reviewed.
Motion made by Member Crown,seconded by Member Foster,and unanimously passed to approve the
minutes with the written in changes.
II: BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION
A. Comments from Citizens/Public: Boy scouts Joseph Steiner&Taylor Jacobsen introduced themselves and
explained they were fulling the requirements for their communications badges.
B. Budget Report: Ex-Officio Member Wright will report the balance of$13,831.72 as of May.
C. Subcommittee Report: Member Maxwell presented minutes and reported on the subcommittee meeting from
May 10th. The board named the subcommittee "Historical Memorial Subcommittee"at the recommendation of
the subcommittee.The next Historical Memorial Subcommittee meeting was set for Thursday July 19 6:30 p.m.
D. Discussion of MLK Keynote Speaker:The board discussed various political and business leaders for the MLK
Ceremony Keynote Speaker.The board asked for more time to research potential speakers and decided to table
the discussion until next meeting.
Each board,commission,or agency of this state or of any political subdivision thereof shall include in the notice of any
meeting or hearing, if notice of the meeting or hearing in required,of such board, commission, or agency, conspicuously
on such notice,the advice that, if a person decides to appeal any decision made by the board, agency,or commission
with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings,and
that,for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made,which record
includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. The requirements of this section do not
apply to the notice provided in s. 200.065(3).
ALSO,IN ACCORDANCE WITH FLORIDA STATUTE 286.26:PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES NEEDING ASSISTANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THESE PROCEEDINGS SHOULD CONTACT THE OFFICE
OF THE CITY CLERK,150 N.LAKESHORE DRIVE,OCOEE,FL 34761,(407)905-3105,48 HOURS IN ADVANCE OF THE MEETING.
MORE THAN ONE COMMISSIONER MAY PARTICIPATE OR HEAR DISCUSSIONS REGARDING A MATTER WHICH WILL COME BEFORE THE COMMISSION FOR ACTION.
E. Other Business: Chair Brown reaffirmed the HRDB regular meeting on July 5th is cancelled.
Member Maxwell shared how the Mayor,City Staff, and HRDB members were interviewed by film maker Dr.
Tony Major for a documentary about the Ocoee story.
The board discussed the possibility of having Representative John Lewis as a keynote speaker for the planned
2020 dedication ceremony to July Perry and the events of 1920.
Ex-Officio Member Wright presented a plaque to Member Crown and thanked her for her service as Chair.
F. Set Next Agenda: Chair Brown, along with input from the board, set the agenda for the next meeting, which will
be held on August 2"d, 2018, said Agenda was established as listed below:

Commissioner.
