HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem II (A)2 Proclamation - Month of February is "American Heart Month" AGENDA 2-02-93 Item II A 2 \ Ocoee 4. 0 ;y,, t c _� a , o OP coon 04 • proclamation IKnniu je: WHEREAS, cardiovascular diseases and stroke this year will kill more than 940,000 Americans, which nearly equals the total number of deaths from all other causes combined; and WHEREAS, such diseases are the number one killer in orange County, claiming the lives of more than 1848 residents in orange County during 1990; and WHEREAS, more than 161,000 Americans die of cardiovascular diseases before they reach the age of 65; and WHEREAS, cardiovascular diseases will Dost our country more than an estimated $108.9 billion this year; and WHEREAS, the American Heart Association is the only voluntary health agency phase sole mission is to reduce early death and disability from cardiovascular diseases, including stroke and related disorders; and WHEREAS, the American Heart Association is funding a nationwide research program. as well as improving health care in the ammmity through professional and public educaticn and oxnamity service programs; I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, proclaim.the month of February as AMERICAN HEART MOMS and I urge all citizens to support the lifesaving mission carried out by American Heart Association volunteers during February. Contributicns of time and money will help in the fight against heart disease and stroke. I urge citizens to help the American Heart Associaticn, West orange Division meet its goal of raising $33,200 during American Heart Month.
