Lakeshore Drive Jean Grafton''}i of GOA` Ocoee, Florida 34761-2258 City Clerk (407)656-2322 FAX(407)656-5725 MEMORANDUM To: The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners From: Jean Grafton, City Clerk Date: May 13, 1994 Re: Polling Place for City Elections As you will see in the attached letter, the Supervisor of Elections will be sending new voter registration cards soon. Those new cards will have a space for municipal polling places and they need the information from us as soon as possible. Since our elections will be on a different date from the federal/state/county elections the option of consolidating the city polling places into one location is available for consideration. Other cities have done this successfully and have found it to be more convenient for their citizens, as one site reduces voter confusion and increases voter participation. It is also more economical, as fewer teams of clerks are required. We have regularly helped in the search for polling places and the number of buildings available that are of adequate size and design is very limited. In the past the community center has been more than adequate as a polling place. It is a familiar location to most citizens and is easily accessed, with adequate parking available. As the City Charter stipulates that the City Commission will designate the polling place(s) for elections, please consider this issue and give direction at this time. "PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE" ` RI T Eng r ._- =, SUPERVISOR `J ' 1\ OF ELECTIONS ORANGE COUNTY FLORIDA May 11, 1994 The Honorable Jean Grafton City Clerk, City of Ocoee 150 Lakeshore Dr. Ocoee, Fl. 34761 Dear Jean; As I mentioned on the phone, the election office is changing the format for Voter Identification Cards. Among the changes being made is a space for municipal polling places. In the near future, we will be mailing a new voter identification card to all registered voters in Orange County. We would like to be able to include the municipal polling place on the cards of Ocoee voters. Would you do me a great favor? As soon as possible, I need a written confirmation of your municipal polling place(s) so the information can be included on I.D. cards for the countywide mailing. Thanx!
