MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners
THRU: Ellis Shapiro , City Manager
FROM: Ray Brenner, Public Works Director
DATE: December 16 , 1993
RE: Upgrading Street Lighting
This memo shall serve as a response to the questions you listed as
part of the information you requested for discussion.
1 . Can the project be done in stages? Ed Stevens ,
Florida Power, said yes it can, however it would
be difficult to schedule a small job in stages .
2 . Are there any plans or engineering drawings
showing the locations of the lights and wiring?
There appear to be some gaps in the lighting
in Pioneer Key II than need to be filled. Ed
Stevens indicated that "as-built" construction
drawings exist . Mr. Stevens has furnished me
with locations of existing lights . ( see attached )
In response to the second part of your question, it
appears the gaps in the lighting will be eliminated as the
proposed new lighting is installed. Should a gap exist
upon completion an additional pole and light could be
considered at that time .
3 . To whom do the current light poles belong? Can
they be salvaged to be used as decorative lighting
in Downtown, around the Maguire House , or around
the parks? In response to the first part of this
question, the light poles belong to Florida Power.
Due to the age of the poles in question, it would
be my recommendation not to use them. Florida
Power would provide the city with new decorative
lighting throughout the city at no cost for in-
stallation, however there would be monthly rental
fees for the lights and poles . These prices vary
monthly depending on selection.

4 . Is there an audit of all street lighting in town?
Has there ever been an actual count and wattage
designation for those in place currently? Yes , an
audit had been done and is updated periodically.
An actual count and wattage designation has been
provided, pursuant to staff ' s request to Florida
Power, and a comparison is being done to ensure
accuracy.
Should you need additional information, please advise .
