The line item is once again depleted and additional funding is needed to continue through the end of the fiscal year. Recommendation: We are recommending an additional $6,000 be transferred from Contingency to continue the program through the end of the fiscal year. Background Summary: The Educational Incentive Program provides funding for employees to pursue course work related to their job or to the long-range value of the employee to the City. Not only has usage increased, the users are seeking advanced degrees and more costly City job related certifications. The initial request for this line item this fiscal year was $27,165. A transfer of$8,000 approved by the Commission on August 3, 2004, has been depleted. Fiscal Impacts: Contingency balance as of August 26, 2004 is $76,000. Balance less this request will be $70,000. The line item for that program is once again depleted and additional funding is needed to continue the program through the end of the fiscal year. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION The Educational Incentive Program provides funding for employees to pursue course work related to their job or to the long-rang value of the employee to the City. Not only has usage increased, the users are seeking advanced degrees or more costly certification programs related to City positions. The initial request for this line item for FY 2003-04 was $27,165. A transfer from Contingency of$8,000 approved by the Commission on August 3, 2004 has already been exhausted. RECOMMENDATION We are recommending an additional $6,000 be transferred from Contingency to complete the fiscal year.
