NOTICE OF QUARTERLY MEETING
CITY OF OCOEE
Citizens Advisory Council for Ocoee Police Department
On Thursday May 24, 2018 the Citizens Advisory Council for the Ocoee Police
Department will meet at 7:00 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 150 N.
Lakeshore Drive. All interested parties are invited to attend.
MINUTES
May 24, 2018 7:00 p.m.
CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Garone calls the meeting to order. Member Laney
leads the invocation. Member Ball leads the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Member Ball, Member Laney, Member Bray, Chairperson Garone, Member
Christian, Member Lovejoy, Member Orme. It is noted that Member Vines has resigned.
Also present are Recording Clerk Madeline Garza and Sergeant Mireya lannuzzi.
ABSENT: Member Titus (absent excused), Member Hill (absent unexcused), Member
King (absent unexcused) Member Lewis (absent unexcused).
QUORUM: Declared by Recording Clerk Garza at 7:06PM.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 28, 2018 MEETING:
Member Laney motions to approve the minutes, seconded by Ball, motion passed
unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS: Two new members; Member Orme and Member Lovejoy introduce
themselves.
Senior Event Member Laney updates the board, no exact date has been set but a
tentative fall date is best when "snowbirds" have returned to the area.

APRIL EVENTS: Chairperson Garone opens the discussion on April events. PM Sgt.
lannuzzi states the department has plans for a busy summer. "Hand in Hand" event
held at local stores; Tropic Save and Family Dollar. Our officers grilled and the public
was invited to meet and ask our officers questions. April being Autism month, the
department invited families with members on the Autism spectrum to an open house.
Information was collected for future calls to their home. The department hopes to host
one more at the end of the year. Autism Awarenes magents were made and are being
displayed on the patrol cars for April. All events are published to social media.
DEPARTMENT EVENT UPDATES: Sgt. lannuzzi updates on Peace Officer Memorial
Day, the department Chaplains hosted a Remembrance Around the Flagpole for officers
injured or killed in the line of duty. Other law enforcement agencies came out. Thin
Blue Line flag will be up until the end of the May. Department Honor Guard will be out
for the Memorial Day ceremony taking place in the gazebo. SRO's update; Officer David
Ogletree was promoted to corporal and will be going to midnight patrol. Officer Tommy
Phan will be the new SRO at Ocoee Middle. Summer pop up games will be back this
year. This includes games at Jim Beech Rec Center throughout the summer—dodge ball,
volleyball, etc. no dates have been set yet. Sgt. lannuzzi says she will email dates.
Casting with a Cop will be two parts, July 31 and August 3. We will be partnered with
local Get Hooked Bait and Tackle. It's open for kids 5-13 and is free. Teen Police
Academy is July 16-20, the participants will be see demonstrations of chase, CSI, active
shooter, taser, Crimeline, DUI, SWAT, and K9 etc. Sgt. lannuzzi invites the CACOPD can
participate and speak about CACOPD. Sgt. lannuzzi updates on the Toys for Kids in
Need program, a Christmas in July event will be held at Walmart — Stuff the Police Car.
Local radio 103.1 WOLF will be out broadcasting. In the past many toys have been
collected. New this year is "Tip a Cop" at Texas Roadhouse — July 12 in the evening.
Collected tips will go towards the toy program. Open House in summer, late July early
August. Public will be invited to tour the department. Coffee with a Cop is July 10, 3-5
at the West Orange Creamery. The library will be hosting Cookies and Milk with a Cop
again this year. Member Laney comments that she enjoyed the Remembrance around
the Flagpole. Member Laney asks about promotional items for the picnic, they were not
at the picnic. $300 was allocated for this but there was no purchase made. Sgt. lannuzzi
asks what items they would like to buy, Member Laney states she would like
promotional items ready for the Senior event. Member Laney states the board was to
vote on the matter in March but there was no meeting. Vote for this in July for the
seniors. Discussion ensues. Member Laney would like the CACOPD be invited to PSA

graduation to say a few words. Member Christian agrees that is a great idea. Member
Laney says the board should be present at all events, talking and listening to people.
Discussion ensues. Member Christian states that she would like to see the board be
familiar with officers. Member Garone suggests an open house for board. Member
Laney suggests that members be present at events. and take advantage of ride-a-longs
that are available. Sgt. lannuzzi asks what are short and long term goals of the board,
what the members want the board to accomplish? Sgt. lannuzzi would like the board to
take on an event, survey monkey, food truck night etc. Member Laney states she
attends every event unless she is out of town, she tells everyone and shares social
media posts about PD events and interacts with people. Member Christian says she will
talk to Cathy Sills to place information about the CACOPD on water bills. Member Bray
suggests visiting local HOA meetings. Member Garone will email the board with the
city's HOA contact list, to meet with them. Sgt. lannuzzi encourages the board to think
of an event that the CACOPD would like to host for the PD, community, etc. She
updates about the park being built across from the department, perhaps the CACOPD
could do a memorial at the park. Member Laney would like to resume getting cards for
officer's birthdays, retirements, etc. Member Garone says he likes the memorial idea
for the park as a long term goal. Discussion ensues.
PROMOTIONAL ITEM UPDATES: Garone clarifies that $300.00 is set aside for
promotional items; Member Christian will look into promotional items. Member Garone
would like split the amount on different items. 8:23 PM Mmeber Laney suggest
magnets, pens with "Stolen from Ocoee PD", something with the non-emergency
phone number, and clips. PM Member Christian likes the pen idea, and calendar
magnets. Member Garone suggests cards or CACOPD pamphlets. Member Bray motions
we spend $150 in pens, seconded by Member Garone, the motion passed unanimously.
Member Garone motions that $150.00 be spent on magnets seconded by Member
Bray, motion passed unanimously.
OFFICER OF THE FIRST QUARTER AWARD: Member Bray motions officer #2,
seconded by Member Garone, Christina, Garone, Lovejoy, Ordem, Bray in favor. The
motion passes. Officer Blake Prince is Officer of the First Quarter 2018. Member
Garone reminds the board to keep in mind the park memorial idea. Member Christian
voices that she will talk to Cathy Sills about promoting on the water bill.

ACCREDITATION UPDATE: — There is no current update, Sgt. Bryan Pace is out; he
will bring information when he comes back. Member Ball asks when the mock
accreditation will take place. Sgt. lannuzzi does not have a date for that yet.
GENERAL DISCUSSION/NEW BUSINESS: Member Laney advises that the VHB is
no more; now it's heard by a special magistrate. Discussion ensues. •
