Re: Resolution 94-13, supporting the Orange County Community Traffic
Safety Program
As you directed at the May 17 regular meeting, here is the Resolution supporting the
Orange County Community Traffic Safety Program.

RESOLUTION NO. 94-13
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA
SUPPORTING THE ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY
TRAFFIC SAFETY PROGRAM WHICH IS CHARGED
WITH REDUCING FATALITIES, INJURIES, AND THE
SEVERITY OF INJURIES SUSTAINED IN TRAFFIC
RELATED CRASHES.
WHEREAS, the Orange County Community Traffic Safety Program is a
cooperative venture, coordinating the efforts of engineering, law enforcement, education,
emergency services and community organizations to determine what crash problems exist and
how they can be significantly reduced in Orange County; and
WHEREAS, eight municipalities, Orange County, the Metropolitan Planning
Organization and various public/private organizations are forming a task force to identify
potential crash problems and implement countermeasures to create a safe environment for all
users of the city, county, and state highway system in Orange County; and
WHEREAS,a crash problem matrix is developed annually by the State of Florida
Safety Office to determine priority rankings based on the relative severity of the crash problem
in each of the State's 67 counties; and
WHEREAS,the problem matrix disclosed that Orange County was ranked highest
in total crashes, second in bicycle and pedestrian crashes and fourteenth in alcohol related
crashes; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA)and the Florida Department of Transportation
(FDOT), are in full support of this concept as an effective approach to crash reduction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA that the City Commission of the City of Ocoee,
Florida, hereby recommends the establishment of the Orange County Community Traffic Safety
Program as a proactive effort to protect the citizens and tourists of Florida from death, injuries,
and emotional and financial consequences of highway traffic crashes; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Commission of the City of Ocoee
does hereby support and endorse the Orange County Community Safety Program and does
authorize active participation and cooperation with the program to ensure its success.
