STAFF REPORT
TO:
The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners
FROM:
Bob Zaitooni, Director of Public Works
DATE:

RE:
Repair of 54" RCP and Drainage Junction Box on Ison Lane
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission authorize up to $10,000 from Stormwater Operating
Contingency Funds for repair of 54" RCP and drainage junction box on Ison Lane~ and approve award of
project to Miller Pipeline Corporation?
BACKGROUNDIDISCUSSION
The 54" RCP drainage pipe and junction are located at a depth of over 20' from finished ground. The joint
between the pipe and the drainage structure, as well as, the joints at various sections of the junction box have
separated resulting in underground discharge. The flow has caused erosion resulting in a deep depression
effecting the easement and private property at 1603 Ison Lane. Temporary repairs have been made, however
due to the depth (over 20' deep) of the pipe and the junction box, out-sourcing to a specialized contractor is
necessary.
Staff attempted to solicit at least 3 written quotes from specialized contractors. Due to the depth of the pipe and
the junction box, only 1 contractor, Miller Pipeline Corporation, responded with a quote not-to-exceed $10,000.
The funds are available from Stormwater Operating Contingency Funds with a balance of$ 68,195.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff respectfully requests that the Honorable Mayor and City Commission to authorize up to $10,000 from
Stormwater Operating Contingency Funds for this project~ and approve award of the project to Miller Pipeline
Corporation.
