Parker, District 4 STAFF REPORT TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners FROM: Bob Zaitooni,Director of Public Works DATE: September 12, 2004 RE: Additional$130,000 for Hurricane Debris Removal ISSUE Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission approve an additional $130,000 for hurricane debris removal for Hurricane Jeanne? BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION On September 7, 2004, and prior to Hurricane Jeanne, City Commission approved up to $200,000 for hurricane debris removal. Staff estimates that an additional $130,000 will be required to complete the storm debris removal, for a total of$330,000. As of October 10, 2004, City contractor and staff collected and disposed of 24,035 cubic yards of storm debris from all three hurricanes. Hurricane Jeanne debris currently total 6,272 cubic yards at 60% completion. As of October 9, 2004, City had expended $245,106.25 in contracted debris removal. Staff will provide an up-to-date progress report on the debris removal to the City Commission on the day of the Commission meeting. The additional $130,000 (for a total of$330,000 to date) will be funded from the Solid Waste Fund Balance currently about $400,000. City will be filling for reimbursement from FEMA.
