Tony K. Wilson, Acting Chief of Police.TJ DATE: September 23, 1994 SUBJECT: USE OF FORFEITURE FUNDS TO PURCHASE 800 MEGAHERTZ PORTABLE RADIO STAFF REPORT ISSUE Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the use of forfeiture funds to purchase one ( 1) 800 megahertz portable radio to be utilized by the officer assigned to the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigations (MBI) . BACKGROUND The portable radio is badly needed for the City of Ocoee assigned Metropolitan Bureau Investigator. It is necessary for this individual to have the ability to communicate with agencies on the 800 megahertz frequency. They do not have this capability with our current portable radios. DISCUSSION The Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) , as well as all other agencies within Orange County, is implementing a new 800mh radio system in mid-November which will have a dedicated talk group just for MBI. When the new radio system goes on-line, the OCSO will take over the MBI radio dispatch and monitoring function from the Orlando Police Department. In order that MBI may be ready to go on-line when the new system is implemented, it is necessary that we make all necessary preparations to ensure the agent currently assigned to MBI is equipped with the required radio equipment. RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve using forfeiture funds not to exceed $3,000 to purchase a 800 megahertz portable radio for this purpose. revdreod AGENDA 10-4-94 WINTER PARK Item II B NEWSRELEASE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Post Office Box 280 407-644-8281 Winter Park, Florida 32790 407-644-7826 FAX DATE: FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT RELEASE: Carolyn Winston "Doing Business The American Way" The message is clear. U.S. and State governmental agencies and their primes are coming to do business with small, women, and minority owned business at a one day Procurement Conference and Fair presented by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce at the Langford Hotel, Wednesday, October 26, 1994 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Who should attend the conference. Any one in business or wanting to start a business. The analogy to keep in mind when asking, If I should attend? Ask yourself what do these agencies purchase. The answer;what ever it takes to operate your home it takes to operate the agencies. Take a look at your grocery list. The items you purchase, the agencies purchase on a large scale, anything from soft drinks, juices, produce to meats. Not only do the agencies purchase cleaning products but they contract the services of those that apply the products. The agencies purchase wall coverings, flowers, clothing, linens, books, cars, boats, appliances, home fixtures, builder and office supplies, pharmaceutical, etc., etc.... What ever you need to maintain and operate your home, the agencies purchase on a macro-scale while the average consumer does it on a micro-scale. This conference will present a myriad of contracting opportunities. There will be contracting opportunities for everyone - construction, hi-tech, ground maintenance, suppliers, concessionaires and professional services. The conference will also address legislative changes that will impact the way small, women and minority owned firms do business with governmental agencies. Congressman Bill McCollum will deliver the opening address at the Conference, Congresswoman Corrine Brown and Governor Chiles will be one of the many keynote speakers for lunch. The Conference is being sponsored by NationsBank. For additional information contact Carolyn Winston at (407)644-8281.
