Subject: Motorola Radio Purchase
Background Summary:
In order to maintain compatibility and interoperability with Motorola radios currently utilized by the rest of
our police fleet and the Orange County radio users group, Motorola radios must be purchased. Motorola is a
sole source provider for these radios and offers only the Orange County contract pricing with mobiles costing
$3,582.75 each and portables costing $3,687.30 each.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the purchase of nine (9) Motorola
Astro XTL 5000 Digital Mobile Radios and three (3) Motorola XTS5000 Model II Digital Portable Radios
from Motorola by piggybacking off the Orange County contract.
Recommendations
It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize staff to
purchase the nine (9) Motorola Astro XTL 5000 Digital Mobile Radios and three (3) Motorola XTS5000
Model II Digital Portable Radios from Motorola by piggybacking off the Orange County contract.

Financial Impact:
The FY 2004/2005 CIP budget, approved by the Mayor and City Commission, included $27,000 from Capital
for the purchase of six (6) mobile radios and $13,500 from Impact Fees for the purchase of three (3) mobile
radios, and $13,500 from Impact Fees for the purchase of three (3) portable radios. The actual total purchase
price will be approximately $10,000.00 less than what was requested in the budget.

ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the purchase of nine (9) Motorola
Astro XTL 5000 Digital Mobile Radios and three (3) Motorola XTS5000 Model II Digital Portable Radios from
Motorola by piggybacking off the Orange County contract.
BACKGROUNDIDISCUSSION
The FY 2004/2005 CIP budget, approved by the Mayor and City Commission, included $27,000 from Capital
for the purchase of six (6) mobile radios and $13,500 from Impact Fees for the purchase of three (3) mobile
radios, and $13,500 from Impact Fees for the purchase of three (3) portable radios. The mobile radios are being
purchased for use in nine (9) new police vehicles already on order. The three portable radios and three of the
mobile radios are for new officers approved in the FY 2004/2005 budget.
