W , . ., co .=_._ ,, z._. le toclanratton WHEREAS, the state of Florida is committed to enhancing the quality of life and the safety of the millions of people who work, live, and vacation in the state; and WHEREAS, impaired driving is a serious crime, which contributed to 23,013 alcohol-related crashes in the state of Florida during 2004 resulting in 1,093 deaths and 17,580 injuries, and WHEREAS, during the 2004 Christmas holiday, 33 people were killed in traffic crashes, 15 of which were alcohol related, and WHEREAS, statistics show that every 32 minutes someone in the U.S. dies in an alcohol- or drug- related crash, and every two minutes someone is injured in an impaired driving crash, and WHEREAS, the City of Ocoee supports and endorses the efforts of all law enforcement agencies participating in the Florida DUI Enforcement Crackdown from December 10, 2005 through January 1, 2006. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Scott Vandergrift do hereby proclaim December 10, 2005 through January 1, 2006 to be the You Drink & Drive. You Lose. Weeks in Florida. I support the initiatives of the mobilization, including public education and awareness and strong enforcement of Driving Under the Influence laws, and I encourage citizens of the City of Ocoee to drive responsibly and avoid the tragic consequences of impaired driving.
