Background Summary: Members of the Education Commission serve two-year terms. Currently the Education Commission has fourteen (14) members and their resolution allows no less than seven (7) members and no more than fifteen (15) members. One application was received from Mr. Gregory Murphy with interest in serving on the board. Issue: Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission appoint Gregory Murphy to the Education Commission with term ending August 2007? Recommendations The City's Education Commission is recommending that the City Commission appoint Gregory Murphy to the Education Commission with term ending August 2007. Parker, District 4 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CITY OF OCOEE BOARDS ❖ Board of Adjustment > Duties include hearing and deciding appeals for administrative review;to hear and recommend to City Commission variances to the zoning ordinance. ❖ Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals > Duties include hearing and deciding appeals of decisions of the Building and Zoning Official related to interpretation and implementation of the Florida Building Code and to consider variances of technical codes. ❖ Citizen Advisory Council for Ocoee Fire Department ➢ Duties include promoting and maintaining communication, cooperation and a positive relationship between the City of Ocoee's citizens, City Commission and Fire Department. ❖ Citizen Advisory Council for Ocoee Police Department > Duties include promoting and maintaining communication, cooperation and a positive relationship between the City of Ocoee's citizens, City Commission and Police Department. ❖ Code Enforcement Board ➢ Duties include reviewing infractions of City technical codes,negotiate compliance and impose fines for failure to comply. ❖ Community Merit Awards Board ➢ Duties include reviewing Community Merit Award applications and making recommendations to the City Commission. ❖ Education Commission Board ➢ Duties include improving the quality of education for Ocoee students by serving as an advisory body to the City Commission on education issues within the City. ❖ Human Relations/Diversity Board ➢ Duties include promoting understanding,respect, goodwill, and equality among all citizens and businesses of the City of Ocoee. ❖ Parks and Recreation Advisory Board > Duties include advising the City Commission, City Manager and Recreation Director on the operation of the City's parks, recreational facilities and programs. ••• Personnel Board • > Duties include developing personnel policies for the City and recommending such policies to the City Commission for adoption. • ❖ Planning and Zoning Board ➢ Duties include establishing principles and policies for guiding action affecting development in the City and its environs.
