Dear Mayor Johnson,
My name is Maia Slowinski, I am a sophomore at Ocoee High School,where I am an honor roll student, and a member of the weight
team. I am also a fencer. I began fencing at Winter Garden Fencing Academy when I was eight years-old.
I'm leaving the country for the first time, and the greatest part is that I get to do something I love. I'm fencing and this will be my first
international tournament.
I've been chosen to compete in the 2019 European Maccabi Games as a member of USA's Juniors Fencing Team. I am one of only
nine female fencers from the U.S.chosen to participate. The Games are being held in Budapest, Hungary in July 2019.
I am excited and proud to be part of Team USA.The European Maccabi Games are a celebration of Jewish unity,culture,and heritage
through athletic competition. I look forward to meeting athletes from around the world, and learning about the history and culture while I
am there.
Maccabi USA is a non-profit organization and are only able to pay a portion of my expenses. My juniors team contribution is almost
$6000, of which I have already raised$1,170. I would appreciate any assistance, large or small that the City of Ocoee can offer to help
fund my portion of the trip.Any contribution helps.
