Re: Appointments to the Senior Program Review Committee
In the August 15 regular Commission Meeting a motion made by Mayor Vandergrift and
seconded by Commissioner Johnson carried 3-2 that a citizens' committee be appointed and
empowered to review the Senior Program (formerly called the Over 65 Program) as to cost,
legality and financial feasibility, and to evaluate establishing a non-profit foundation. At that
time City Attorney Rosenthal advised that special counsel could also be assigned to the
committee.
During that same meeting you discussed how the committee should be appointed and Mayor
Vandergrift suggested that the same structure be used that was used to form the 1990 Over
65 Program Committee. Earlier this week you were given a copy of the minutes of the
1990 meeting when the Over 65 Program Committee was appointed showing that each
Commissioner appointed two members and the Mayor appointed three members.
