Shira, P.E. 40„ ' City Engineer/Utilities Director SUBJECT: Maguire Road Improvement Project Approval of 90% Design and Authorization for Permitting and Construction The Maguire Road Improvement Project has been proceeding at a steady pace towards completion. PEC, Inc. has reached the 90 percent level in the design and they and Staff are ready to proceed towards completion of design, permitting, and award of construction for this necessary project. The project limits start approximately 1200 feet south of the intersection of Maguire Road and Roberson Road and extend north to the intersection of Maguire Road and Mercantile Court. The project generally involves the widening from two lanes, plus intermittent turn lanes, to a full four lane "urban section" road with raised median and turn lanes in the area south of the turnpike, a new four lane divided bridge over the turnpike, a five lane section north of the turnpike, and including utility relocation as required. On October 11, 1999, a public meeting was held in the Commission Chambers to provide any interested residents and/or commercial business owners with a formal explanation of the entire project. Written comments from that meeting have already been previously forwarded to each of you under separate cover. While numerous questions were raised with regard to construction activities, resident inconveniences, and vehicle access into and out of the residential and commercial developments, the general consensus was acceptance of the project. Representatives of PEC, Inc. will be making a similar presentation at the regularly scheduled City Commission Meeting on November 16, 1999. This presentation is for securing approval of the Maguire Road Improvement Project by the City Commission. The project plan is to complete design and secure permits early next year so that the project can be competitively advertised for construction. Construction is scheduled to start in early Spring of next year and should take approximately 18 to 24 months to complete. The project is funded under the 1998 Transportation Bond Issue. Mi Protect Ocoee's Water Resources u/' Staff is requesting the Mayor and City Commission approve the project as presented at this 90 percent level and authorize Staff and PEC, Inc. to proceed with completion of the design and securing of all necessary permits with the plan to proceed on to bidding and award for construction.
