CITY ENGINEER/UTILITIES DIRECTOR 150 N.LAKESHORE DRIVE•OCOEE,FLORIDA 34761 PHONE(407)656-2322 EXT.142•FAX(407)656-7835 MEMORANDUM DATE: July 15, 1998 TO: The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners FROM: James W. Shira, P.E. City Engineer/Utiliti Director SUBJECT: Fence at Forest Oaks Water Plant During the dry period over the last few months, we received several calls from concerned neighbors of this facility. They reported that children were playing on the unfenced part of the plant site, and had been caught lighting matches. They also reported that some trash was being dumped on the property. The immediate fire danger is reduced, but I believe it would be smart to install the 1,300+1- feet of chain link fence required to completely enclose our property. This will provide an increased level of protection for the expensive and dangerous machinery and equipment at the plant, and reduce the potential for vandalism. We were unsure of the cost of this type of fence, so we called several firms to get quotes. We only received two quotes, one for$10,500.00, and the other for$9,752.00. The lower quote however, required that clearing along the fence line be done by "others", which would push the total price well over$10,500.000 in my opinion. I am requesting that the City Commission: 1.) Authorize staff to solicit bids for installation of 1,300 feet of chain link fence, and 2.) Authorize the transfer of up to $11,000.00 from Reserve for Contingency to fund this construction. After bids are received, a report will be presented to the Commission recommending award to the lowest and best bidder. 7 THE PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE lld14
