WHEREAS, the threat of destructive fire is ever present throughout the United States and
needless deaths and destruction of property continue; and
WHEREAS, heightened public awareness may reduce the unnecessary loss of life and
property; and
WHEREAS, proper planning and regular maintenance of smoke detectors yield a life saving
alternative to an otherwise disastrous outcome in a fire; and
WHEREAS, promoting fire safety education and involvement will enable us to turn the tide on
the devastation; and
'WHEREAS, it is the duty of all citizens to ensure that all safeguards are implemented to
contribute to a safer community.
NOW THEREFORE I,S. Scott Vandergrift,Mayor of the City of Ocoee,
Florida, do hereby proclaim the week of October 6 - 12, 1996 as
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
in Ocoee and encourage all citizens to participate as a vital component for the preservation of
life and the protection of property from the devastating effects of fire.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of
Ocoee, Florida to be affixed this second day of October, 1996.
