BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: It was reported on Thursday, June 18th that the pump motor was turning, but the pump itself was not . This pump/well serves as irrigation for three baseball fields and the fooltball field located behind the garage. I called Robert Holland to ask if he could recommend a company that would provide us with costs to make the necessary repairs. He recommended Locke Well and Pump Company, stating that this company is reputable, reliable and gives good pricing on their labor/materials. Mr. Dawson, Locke Well and Pump Company President, was called and a crew arrived the next morning to begin pulling the 40 HP turbine pump, 140 ' of 6"xl" column shafting, and one bowl assembly. Upon completion of the inspection of these parts, it was estimated that parts and labor would cost around $7, 500 . 00 . I then met with Mr. Shapiro to discuss the urgency for the repairs. He directed me to proceed to negotiate down the price, if possible, and I did. Mr. Dawson agreed to reduce the costs from $7 , 500 . 00, to $6 , 758 . 00 , a savings of $742 . 00 . Mr. Shapiro considered this an emergency due to the newly placed sod, along with reconstruction projects, fertilizing being done, as well as preparing the football field for opening day. Due to the lack of monies in the General Fund, staff elected to transfer $3 , 500 from the P.P.T.D. Supplies Account (001-541-5202 ) , and $3 , 000 from the Lease/Rental Account (001-541-4400 ) , into the Parks/Beach Maintenance Account (001-541-4609 ) . Page 2 . Staff Report June 29 , 1992 RECOMMENDATION: Therefore , based on the above background and discussion, it is respectfully requested that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the expenditure of $6 , 758 . 00 , to pay for the repair of the pumping system.
