RE: Re-piping Vignetti Recreation Center
ISSUE:
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize monies
from the Contingency Fund to re-pipe Vignetti Recreation Center?
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
We continue to have numerous water leaks in the Vignetti Recreation Center.
We have had approximately one dozen leaks in the past year due to old and
deteriorating copper piping. The recreation center currently has a leak in the
cold water manifold. This leak is located underneath the slab and also
underneath a load bearing wall. Due to the location and structural impact of this
repair, it is beyond Public Works current capabilities. We have solicited
proposals for the repairs and /or a complete re-piping of this facility. Also, this
year's Recreation budget has $4,000 allocated for the installation of additional
toilets at the Vignetti Recreation Center. The proposals received included an
additional quote for the toilet installation as additional work. The quotes are as
follows:
Re-pipe: Add 2 toilets:
Maitland Plumbing $2,960. $4,940.
United Plumbing 2,600. 3,500.
Stone Plumbing 3,500. 4,250.
I have verified with the Finance Department that the Contingency account
currently has $121,930 available.
RECOMMENDATION:
Therefore, Staff respectfully requests the Honorable Mayor and Board of City
Commissioners authorize up to $3,000 from contingency for the re-piping, and
the use of the $4,000 budgeted in the Recreation Department for the toilet
installation. Authorization is also respectfully requested to award the subject
work to United Plumbing.
