BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: $21,000 was approved in this year's capital improvement budget for the purchase of a diesel slope mower. Because all street mowing except rights-of-way has been contracted out the department does not need a slope mower. The department recently purchased an off road 4 x 2 utility vehicle and found it to be invaluable as a trash collector on rights-of-way, hauling herbicides for weed and aquatic weed control, and as a parks maintenance vehicle. The size of the machine makes it ideal for upkeep in areas where we would not want to disturb the grass. Because only one person can ride on the vehicle, four more are requested in order to keep up with City wide maintenance responsibilities. RECOMMENDATION: Staff respectfully requests permission to reallocate $21,000 from 001-541-20-6400 account to purchase four (4) Off Road 4 x 2 Utility Vehicles under State Contract for $4,430 each.
