ISSUE:
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the
construction of a second soccer field at a cost of approximately $20,000?
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
Due to the increase in league participation, the Ocoee Soccer League has requested
the construction of a second soccer field at the Beech Recreation Center. Public Works
and a sports turf contractor will construct this field as a joint project. The construction of
a second soccer field will require:
1. Coarse grade and fill by Public Works
2. Irrigation system installation by Pubic Works
3. Laser grade field by turf contractor
4. Sod installation by turf contractor
The attached quote from Southern Turf Nurseries, Inc., for laser grading at $0.07, per
square foot, and installing "419 Bermuda sod" at $0.23 per square foot, is the only
quote we have been able to obtain. This is the same company that graded and -
installed the sod on the Bull Dog football field, and delivered an excellent product. This
equates to approximately $18,000, for laser grading and sod for a second 60,000
square foot soccer field. Also, we estimate the irrigation system material will cost
approximately $2,000, for a total project cost of$20,000. If authorized, this project
must proceed immediately in order to have this second field ready for league play this
year. I have verified with the Finance Director that funds are available in the Capital
Projects Bond fund.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff respectfully requests the Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the
construction of a second soccer field by authorizing a contract with Southern Turf
Nurseries in the amount of$18,000, for laser grading and installation of 419 Bermuda
sod, and $2,000 for irrigation system material to be installed by Public Works personnel.
